What is GRIT and why is is important?

Angela Lee Duckworth: Grit: The power of passion and perseverance

Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.

View this TED Talk and think about what Grit is and why it is so important.

View this video Think about how Connor shows GRIT.

See the inspiring story of brothers Conner and Cayden Long, who were the recipients of Sports Illustrated Kids 2012 SportsKids of the Year award. Although Cayden has cerebral palsy it hasn't stopped him from competing in triathlons with his older brother Conner.

In the comment box below my blog post, please write any example of grit, either in real life, or your own experience or from a movie or book.

  68. Grit is related to growth mindset, which is the ability to keep your mind flexible. You have to continue on, and go through with any long-term goals. An example might be in school with every kid. They all try to reach their goal, whether it's about sports, school grades, or even social status. Most of them have "grit" and can achieve their goals, but some can't. For example, I try to raise my social status to make me seem more friendlier everyday, and I can achieve this goal easily. I also try to read more and more, but this goal I have trouble achieving. As you can see, if you have grit and the passion, then you can easily accomplish something, but when you don't, it would be difficult to achieve anything.
